Fortis purchased Kwik-Fit Insurance Services (KFIS) in August 2010 strengthening Fortis' retail operations (RIAS and Fortis Insurance Solutions). KFIS was the insurance broking division of Kwik-Fit GB Limited, the automotive and parts repair business established in 1971. It was launched in 1995 and has grown to become one of the UK's leading motor insurance distributors. The number of staff has grown to around 1000, and the call-centre based operation handles over 10 million calls each year.
KFIS is composed of three legal entities. KFIS is the main entity and has two further subsidiaries, Express Insurance Services Limited (acquired in June 2007) and The Green Insurance Company Limited (formed in August 2007). KFIS reported GBP 87 million of revenues in 2009. The purchase of KFIS means Fortis now insures 7.6 million customers and consolidates Fortis as the fourth largest personal lines intermediary distributor in the UK.
